Lonnie Hart, Jr. is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and attended Howard University School of Law, one of the nation’s prominent Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Lonnie Hart Jr was employed as an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney's Office from 1998-2002. During his time as an assistant district attorney Mr. Hart prosecuted hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases ranging from Assault to Drug cases to Homicides from arrest to trial and conviction.
As part of his responsibilities, Mr. Hart indicted hundreds of cases in the Kings County Grand Jury and investigated dozens of high-profile violent crimes.
In 2002, Mr. Hart entered private practice focusing on Criminal Defense and Police Misconduct cases. Mr. Hart has defended several hundred clients in a wide variety of criminal matters, consistently winning favorable dispositions for his clients from outright dismissals or not guilty verdicts after trial.
Mr. Hart has successfully represented clients in the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties. Mr. Hart also represents clients in Federal Court, specifically the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York in both criminal and civil matters.
Mr. Hart has successfully sued the City of New York and the New York City Police Department for police brutality, false arrest and false imprisonment, winning money for his clients.
Mr. Hart has also successfully sued large companies such as New York City Transit and Verizon in Federal court for employment discrimination based on gender, race and religion — in each instance securing monetary awards for his clients.
Mr. Hart has substantial trial experience as both a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. In 2010, Mr. Hart represented State Senator Kevin Parker in a felony assault trial in Brooklyn Supreme Court. Senator Parker was acquitted of all felony charges against him and was able to keep his seat in the state senate.
Mr. Hart is an active member of the Metropolitan Bar Association, Brooklyn Bar Association, the Kings County Criminal Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
